Sam was introduced to photography at an early age, his mother was a model and his father was Terrance Donovan’s producer. He left school knowing he would work in the same industry. His first few years were spent assisting a number of photographers including Mario Testino. He worked in advertising, fashion and editorial and later studied at the London College of Printing (what is now UAL).
In those formative years he learned the necessary technical skills but perhaps more importantly, discovered a passion for photographing people. He enjoys meeting new people, learning about them and building a connection to capture them for who they are.
His favoured genres are fashion, portraiture and more recently art nude in wild landscapes. The latter has become a project that has seen him travel around the world seeking out otherworldly locations that compliment or juxtapose the beauty of the human form.
When he is not taking pictures he is at home in his studio printing his work having replaced traditional darkroom printing for Giclée printing. He firmly believes photographs should be freed from their digital counterparts and ideally framed. His walls are lined with photographs and books by other photographers who inspire him.
