    Our Guest

Xiaobo Fu is a photographer, visual artist, and PhD student in Computer Arts at Goldsmiths, University of London. He also works as a studio manager at Our Studio.

Xiaobo creates experimental photography and digital art. His work explores perspective, identity and the interaction of people with technology. Some of his main projects include Aura Aura, which turns portraits into wave-like images, and Chinese Calligraphy Style Transfer, which uses AI to change and recreate writing styles.

His work has been shown in Ambika P3 Gallery, the Institute of International Visual Arts, and the China Design Centre in London. In 2021, he won the Google AMI Research Award for a group project that used movement and AI to create calligraphy and graffiti.

    Topics We’ll Cover

    Projects Combining Technology and Photography
Xiaobo will talk about some of his key projects that mix technology with photography. He will show how tools like machine learning and image processing can change the way we see and understand images.

How New Tech Like AI Can Be Used in Photography
We’ll look at how new tools—like AI image generators, style transfer, and smart editing software—can help photographers work in new and creative ways, while also being careful and thoughtful about how we use them.

Social Media in China vs the West: A Photographer’s Perspective
Xiaobo will also discuss the differences between Chinese social media platforms, with a focus on Rednote (小红书), one of the fastest-growing platforms in China. He’ll explore how photographers use these platforms in distinct ways, and how cultural norms and platform algorithms influence what we see—and how we share—creative work online.
